Bundanoon a ‘community that shows up’
Wingecarribee Shire mayor Erin Foley described Bundanoon as a “community that shows up” when she launched the village’s new Place Plan on Wednesday morning.
Wingecarribee Shire mayor Erin Foley described Bundanoon as a “community that shows up” when she launched the village’s new Place Plan on Wednesday morning.
She said Bundanoon residents were not ones to “stand on the sidelines”.
Cr Foley said residents had taken a very active role in helping to shape a shared vision for their village and the Bundanoon Village Place Plan provided a ‘roadmap’ for that vision to be delivered.
She said the plan would protect what makes Bundanoon special but ensure it thrives for future generations.
The Bundanoon Place Plan was officially adopted at council’s August meeting after two years of development including three rounds of community engagement and a public exhibition process.
It is the second place plan following the Robertson Place Plan developed as part of the Village Place Plan Program, supporting council’s place-based planning framework.
The plan lists a number of initiatives under five different themes – Our People, Our Places, Our Environment, Our Economy and Our Leadership – as well as the people responsible for delivering them (‘place partners’) and an indicative timeframe.
Two of the initiatives under the theme of ‘Our Places’ will be achieved through the construction of the High Pedestrian Activity Area in Railway Avenue.
Council has received $1.26 million in State Government funding through the Towards Zero Safer Roads Program to deliver the project.
NSW Minister for Regional Transport Jenny Aitchison was represented at Wednesday’s launch by Transport for NSW representative Vanessa Wilson.
Ms Wilson, Senior Manager Precinct Integration South East Tablelands, said road safety was a shared responsibility and the Bundanoon project was an excellent example of Local and State governments working together.
The project will involve a range of works in Railway Avenue between Anzac Parade and Osbourne Street including raised pedestrian crossings, continuous footpaths, kerb extensions and improvements at key entry points to the village centre to encourage reduced speeds.
Geoff Pollard from the Bundanoon Community Association described the plan as the “best example possible of a shared vision for the future”.
He said he was looking forward to seeing the planned outcomes achieved.
Wednesday’s launch was attended by a number of WSC representatives including Crs Foley, Rachel Russell and James Farrell, council’s General Manager Lisa Miscamble and Director Communities and Place Michael McCabe.
