The Bundanoon-based Quest for Life Foundation is hoping to raise $150,000 through its 2026 community appeal to support women experiencing burnout, trauma, grief and life challenges.

The ‘Change the Story for 50 women’ appeal has been timed in the lead up to Mother’s Day and will continue through until the end of the financial year.

It will help shine a light on the vital yet often unseen role women play in families and communities — and the personal cost that can come with constantly caring for others.

Funds raised will enable 50 women to attend a five-day Quest for Life residential program designed to help them “step out of survival mode and begin a journey of healing, resilience and transformation”.

“Women are so often the backbone of our communities — the carers, the organisers, the ones who hold everything together,” said Petrea King, Founder and CEO of Quest for Life.

“But many are running on empty. This appeal is about creating a space where they can finally receive the care they so freely give.”

Quest for Life works with individuals experiencing a wide range of challenges, including burnout, chronic illness, trauma, grief and the impacts of domestic violence.

The programs provide practical tools, emotional support and a safe, nurturing environment to help participants rebuild their lives.

The impact of this work extends well beyond the individual.

“When a woman heals, families are strengthened,” King said.

“Relationships begin to mend. Communities benefit.

“We see this ripple effect every day.”

One woman who attended a Quest for Life program last year described her experience as transformative.

“It was one of the best experiences of my life,” she said.

“I’ve never felt so safe in a group of women before. I didn’t have to tell my story to feel heard, supported and valued.

“I felt true joy for the first time in many years.”

While Quest for Life supports people of all genders — including many men who attend its programs — this year’s appeal places a special focus on women who have spent years caring for others and who now need support themselves.

Community members are invited to donate to the appeal through tax-deductible donations, helping make these life-changing programs accessible to those who need them most.

The appeal has already raised close to $25,000 as of Friday, April 17.

As Quest looks to the future, the Foundation is inviting the community to help ensure that for decades to come, people in crisis can continue to find peace, resilience and purpose within its sanctuary of healing.
