Angels golf day a success
Over 70 golfers in 18 groups of players turned up to the Moss Vale Golf Club on Friday to participate in the inaugural Angels Cup for the Angels in Our Town group.
Over 70 golfers in 18 groups of players turned up to the Moss Vale Golf Club on Friday to participate in the inaugural Angels Cup for the Angels in Our Town group.
As previously reported here on The Southern Wire, the Angels event had been originally scheduled for March 27, but was postponed after wet weather made the course unplayable.
Players teed off in a shotgun start at 12 noon in the social Ambrose format - perfect for seasoned golfers and beginners alike.
The day began with a sumptuous Wagyu BBQ lunch from Wildwood Hill, followed by on-course challenges including the Above 8 Finance Longest Drive and the Wildwood Hill closest to the pin and refreshments from award-winning Powder Monkey Brewing.
Play wrapped up at the 19th Hole from 4pm with presentations, finger food and the crowning of the first-ever Angel Cup winners- the ‘Fast Lane’ team, consisting of Lane McCarthy, Nicholas Plokstys, Viv Morrissey and Kim Rowland.
“Moss Vale’s a great course to play on and a pleasure to play with these two ladies as well as Nick (Plokstys) - one of my best mates and I also must thank Antoinette and Rob Sampson for putting this golf day on today, too,” he told the crowd.
A raffle on the day also featured standout prizes including a Stay & Play escape at Bonville Golf, a wonderful Italian red dress, a Verve Portraits voucher, a midweek stay at Dormie House and a one year membership to Citizen Cambridge in Berrima.
The award for the Longest Drive went to Dwayne Murray (approximately 380 metres down the 15th hole) and for the women, Kate Flight.
Second prize went to Team Highland, with a score of 62 (or 10 under par).
Organiser Rob Sampson told The Southern Wire he was pleased with how the day went and that it raised much needed funds for their Gala Day on October 24th.
“Even though it was cold and slightly inclement on Friday, we were saying to the participants that our first responders and emergency services personnel go out in much worse weather conditions than this!” Mr. Sampson said.
“Overall though, the ‘golfing gods’ shined upon us all the way from tee-off through to the end of the day.”
Mr. Sampson also thanked Corinna Nesci, Agency Principal of Highland Southern Highlands.
“We live in tighter fundraising times these days, and if it wasn’t for Corinna this day might not have even happened,” Mr. Sampson said.
“But we’re coming back bigger and better next year for the 2027 Angels Cup – in fact half of the groups who played on Friday said they will definitely come back again next year.”
