Afternoon of high-energy folk and bluegrass at Penrose

Local music fans are in for a treat this month with award-winning Kiama folk band The Water Runners to perform at Penrose Village Hall on Saturday, August 22.

Local music fans are in for a treat this month with award-winning Kiama folk band The Water Runners to perform at Penrose Village Hall on Saturday, August 22.

They will be joined by Penrose locals, The Lonely Lighthouse Bluegrass Band for an afternoon of original music, storytelling and bluegrass-infused Australian folk from 3.30pm to 6pm

The Water Runners have taken their distinctive sound to festivals and venues around Australia.

Their songs are rich in melody and storytelling, drawing on the Australian landscape and their own experiences, with a repertoire that ranges from the serious to the seriously fun.

The band's performances and songwriting have earned national recognition.

They were People's Choice finalists at the Australian Folk Music Awards in 2021 and runners-up in 2025.

They were named Best Band at the 2020 National Busking Championships.

The Penrose performance promises to be a relaxed and lively afternoon of music in the village hall, with audiences invited to come along, bring friends and nibbles and enjoy two bands celebrating the rich traditions of folk and bluegrass music.
