A woolly good result for Goulburn as digital auction hub lands $1.4 million
Goulburn is set to strengthen its place as one of Australia's leading wool centres after Australian Wool Handlers (AWH) secured $1.4 million to establish the nation's first fully digital wool auction and handling facility.

Goulburn is set to strengthen its place as one of Australia's leading wool centres after Australian Wool Handlers (AWH) secured $1.4 million to establish the nation's first fully digital wool auction and handling facility.
The funding has been awarded through the NSW Government's Agriculture Industries Innovation and Growth Program and will be used to develop the Goulburn Wool Auction Innovation Hub.
The project aims to modernise Australia's wool auction system by introducing digital technology to improve efficiency throughout the supply chain and strengthen connections between wool growers and buyers.
Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman said the investment was a significant boost for the region and the wool industry.
"This is a fantastic result for Goulburn and a strong vote of confidence in our region's reputation as a powerhouse of Australia's wool industry," she said.
"For generations, wool has been at the heart of our local economy, and this project demonstrates how we can honour that proud history while embracing innovation and new technology."
The new hub will move a key part of Australia's wool auction system away from a metropolitan-centred model and into a regional location closer to where much of the nation's wool is produced.

Mrs Tuckerman said the investment would help future-proof the industry while creating economic benefits for the region.
"By bringing cutting-edge digital technology to wool auctions and handling, AWH is helping future-proof the industry, improve efficiency for producers and create new opportunities for regional growth," she said.
"Investments like this help producers get their product to market more efficiently while supporting jobs, attracting investment and strengthening economic activity right here in Goulburn."
She said Goulburn's long history in the wool industry made it the ideal location for the project.
"The Wool Auction Innovation Hub will attract new business opportunities, support employment and further showcase Goulburn as a leader in agricultural excellence and innovation," she said.
"The wool industry contributes significantly to our local economy and supports farming families across the Southern Tablelands."
Mrs Tuckerman congratulated Australian Wool Handlers on securing the funding and said she looked forward to seeing the project drive the next phase of growth for both Goulburn and Australia's wool industry.
