The Southern Tablelands has two people vying for prestigious NSW Women of the Year awards.

The Southern Tablelands has two people vying for prestigious NSW Women of the Year awards.
Jo Marshall of Yass and Hannah Orr of Goulburn have both been named as finalists – Jo in the NSW Regional Woman of the Year category and Hannah in the ‘Ones to Watch’ category.
The awards – designed to celebrate “trailblazers, changemakers, quiet achievers and role models from every walk of life” – will be presented at a ceremony on Thursday, March 5.
The NSW Government has published short profiles on all of this year’s finalists.
Jo Marshall is described as a “visionary leader advocate for rural communities”.
“As the driving force behind the Australian Agricultural Centre, including its Women in AG Program, Jo inspires and equips the next generation of agricultural leaders through immersive education, hands-on training and innovative programs.
“Her work is grounded in a commitment to tackling entrenched disadvantage in rural areas.”
According to the profile, Jo has championed pathways for young people, women and jobseekers who are disengaged from traditional education, ensuring they have access to opportunities that build skills, confidence and sustainable employment futures.
“Through her collaborative approach, she has built partnerships across schools, government, industry and community organisations, amplifying impact beyond her immediate region”.
Fourteen-year-old Hannah Orr is deputy mayor of the Goulburn-Mulwaree Youth Council.
In her role as a youth councillor she has successfully advocated for a new pedestrian crossing near her school and has contributed to local events including a community bike ride and the Goulburn Lilac City Festival.
Hannah lives with disability and medical issues but it doesn’t hold her back from her commitment to serving the community.
At school Hannah is also president of the Social Justice Council which raises money for various charities and is part of the Bridges to Borders Group which celebrates multicultural students.
Last year she was named Goulburn-Mulwaree Council’s Young Citizen of the Year.
