Two Goulburn projects will receive funding under the 2025 round of the Veteran Community Grants Program (formerly known as the Anzac Community Grants Program).
Goulburn-Mulwaree Council will receive $3000 to upgrade two exhibition cases at the Rocky Hall Memorial Museum.
The grant will allow a “more engaging and accessible display of the museum’s significant Great War firearms and weapons collection”.
The upgraded showcases will improve object interpretation, ensure enhanced conservation conditions and provide a more dynamic visitor experience.
Council says the project will also foster a deeper appreciation and understanding of the multi-layered stories of Australian personnel during the First World War.
Mulwaree High School will also receive $3000 to digitise a significant collection of slides provided by the Australian War Memorial.
The slides contain photographs from all major wars/conflicts that Australians have been involved in from the Boer War through to the Vietnam War.
By digitising the images, the school is hoping to preserve the “valuable historical records” but also make them more accessible for educational and commemorative purposes.
The 2025 round of the VCGP was the first delivered under a refreshed program design with more emphasis on projects that enhance veteran well-being and to support recognition of the veteran community and events that acknowledge significant military anniversaries.
Seventy projects across the state will a total of more than $112,000 as part of last year’s funding round.
Minister for Veterans David Harris said the NSW Government was committed to honouring and supporting veterans and their families.
“The newly refurbished VCGP provides funding for a range of exceptional projects and initiatives that allow communities across the state to acknowledge Australia’s military service along with educating future generations and enhancing the wellbeing of the veteran community,” Mr Harris said.
