Students, staff welcome new creative and performing arts centre
Students and staff at Bowral High School are celebrating the opening of a new creative and performing arts centre.

Students and staff at Bowral High School are celebrating the opening of a new creative and performing arts centre.
The new arts centre – nicknamed ‘The Theatre’ – is part of a $6 million upgrade delivered by the NSW Government.
Other works at the school will include upgrades to specialist classrooms used for hospitality, visual arts, science, woodwork and metal work to ensure they are considered state-of-the-art.
The new theatre will be a hub for students to develop production skills and will also provide new dance, drama, music, debating and movie-making opportunities.
Industry-standard facilities include tiered seating, the latest audio-visual equipment and a mirrored dance studio.
The arts centre will be shared with local primary schools, ensuring the benefits are enjoyed by literally hundreds of local students.
Teachers at the school will receive dedicated professional learning to support the high potential and gifted education programs and opportunities at the school.
Bowral High was of 33 schools across NSW to share in a $100 million investment as part of the State Government’s high potential and gifted education partner schools’ program.
The program is delivering upgrades and improvements to facilities such as science and technology laboratories, libraries, creative arts spaces, sporting facilities and design workshops.
Member for Wollindilly Judy Hannan described the theatre as a welcome addition to the Southern Highlands.
“I’m sure teachers and students at our local primary school will relish the opportunity to use this amazing new facility too,” she said.
“I’m looking forward to seeing what the students will be able to produce and a greater impact on the community as a result,” she said.
Principal of Bowral High School, Safija Bristina, said students were all very excited about the facility and there was a “buzz in the air”.
“We can bring back dance lessons and develop our students’ talent further, as well as using it as a gallery for HSC major works and performances,” Ms Bristina said.
