Local member says public has ‘lost patience’ with Coalition
Federal Member for Whitlam Carol Berry set up a ‘mobile office’ in Moss Vale’s Leighton Gardens yesterday afternoon to hear constituents’ concerns and catch up and say hello.

Federal Member for Whitlam Carol Berry set up a ‘mobile office’ in Moss Vale’s Leighton Gardens this afternoon to hear constituents’ concerns and catch up and say hello.
It was one of many regular mobile offices she sets up around the electorate, including throughout the Southern Highlands.
She also commented on the news yesterday regarding the Liberal’s Angus Taylor ousting the now former Opposition Leader, Sussan Ley in a leadership spill held this morning.
He will now serve as Opposition Leader, with Senator Jane Hume as his Deputy.
“Ultimately, I think the Australian public just wants government to ‘get on with it’,” she told The Southern Wire.
“Certainly, the Prime Minister in our caucus meetings has just been saying ‘we’re here to do a job - stay focused on your electorate, get the job done, and we want to be an effective government that delivers’.
“I imagine that narrative is within the Coalition as well – people I think have lost patience a little bit with the drama, and they also want the Coalition to get on with it.
“And I imagine they will do that to be honest, because their continued existence is at stake, and people are feeling worried about the future of the Coalition.”
Member also gauges locals concerns
Ms. Berry also told The Southern Wire that a number of people who approached her said they were concerned about the Repoly plastics factory proposal, as well as a number of other issues, including the future of the Highlands and making sure that we’re keeping what makes the Highlands so special.
“There were also people who were interested in international issues, for instance our relationship with the United States, AUKUS, a number of other individual issues people wanted me to follow up – a whole raft of issues - which is often what I find when we have these mobile offices,” Ms. Berry said.
“It’s fascinating to hear people’s viewpoints but also really valuable to get that feedback, too. People care really deeply about their local community and about the future and it’s actually a real pleasure to hear people’s perspective and everyone is also really respectful. This is a really engaged community, and so I feel that it’s such a pleasure to come up here.”
